On Thursday 9-12-13, around 11:00 am, Williamstown Fire responded to Williams College for a possible Mercury spill in one of the College’s dormitories. Car 1, Engine 1 and Engine 2 responded to Williams College. Students were evacuated from part of the dormitory for precautionary reasons. Car 1 requested a tier 1 response from the State Hazmat Team to verify the substance in question. Upon arrival, the Hazmat team verified the substance was not mercury and students were allowed back to their rooms. WFD was assist at the scene by Campus Security and Safety officers, and the Safety and Environmental Compliance office. All units cleared and returned in service around 12:45.
